We cover safety briefings – after all, these days most people have travelled by aeroplane and expect a safety briefing before takeoff. Imagine what you would think of a pilot that did not give a safety briefing?

The is a special section on the international COLREGS or “anti” collision regulations and the special identification lights that various commercial and military vessel exhibit.

As Captain of a small boat in UAE waters with a FTA small boat licence you will need to know who “gives way to who” and also “!who stands on”.

What kind of actions should be taken to avoid a collision?

You need to know what responsibilities “every” vessel at sea has. Ignorance of the rules is not a defence.

Essential knowledge of chartwork and the symbols on the chart are described and many examples are given to properly prepare the small boat captain of dangers and safe areas that exist within the navigational area.

Knots

Do you know your knots? We provide a section that shows the common knots used at sea and their uses.
